Source: El Financiero - June 2008
members QRSS (Quintana Roo Espeleogical Survey) have discovered bones in a cenote in the Riviera Maya. This discovery is an important reflection on the presence of men in the early Americas in what is now south-eastern Mexico.
Located just 500 meters from the entrance to the cenote, and in an extremely fragile condition, these bones will be analyzed on site.
The skeleton also retains 10 teeth, providing an opportunity dating and even information on diet through C13. The test results could confirm that the history of human presence in the Americas still holds its mystery.
These research projects in the cenotes, the caves flooded the Yucatan Peninsula, launched almost a decade ago, are from Mexico, a pioneer in conducting archaeological records in the submerged areas.
